Penshaw Community Association

Penshaw Community Association was built in 1959 by Durham County Council and extended in 1963 when the main hall was built. It is situated on the Barnwell Estate close to the shops and open green area. It is also near a bus route.

The building consists of a very large hall with a good wooden sprung floor which is ideal for dancing and sports activities. At one end of the hall is a curtained stage with changing room facilities at each side.

To join the association for a year, it costs £2.00 for adults and £1.00 for children. There is also a charge for participating in the various activities.

When the hall and room are not in use, they can be hired for private events. Please see Our Community Facilities link on the left for details of hire charges.

If you are interested in helping our association or would like to begin a new class or activity .please contact Katherine Mason Tel. 4526488

To join any of the group activities please contact the group leader direct.

The small room seats about thirty people. It has chairs and square tables. There is also a well equipped kitchen with crockery for eighty people. There are modern toilets and a toilet for disabled people. The centre is clean and well decorated throughout.

Penshaw Community Association is a registered charity and is operated by a management committee which is elected in May in accordance with the Charity Commission guidelines.

The centre is run for the benefit of the people of Penshaw and surrounding area. We are members of Community Matters (the national body). Penshaw Community Association is also part of Sunderland Network
